Yale University engaged 21CP to conduct a comprehensive assessment of its campus police department, the oldest campus law enforcement agency in the country. The evaluation considered the department’s operations, policies, procedures, processes, performance, and relationship with the community.
21CP produced a comprehensive report providing recommendations for comprehensively re-imagining public safety at Yale.
As part of its engagement, 21CP analyzed policies and procedures, met with community and campus stakeholders, and conducted in-depth listening and shadowing sessions with departmental personnel. These inputs were considered in light of best practices and the practices of other campus police departments. 21CP made numerous, specific recommendations for potential changes in policy, procedures, practices, and operational approaches.
Separately, 21CP conducted a Sentinel Event Review of an officer-involved shooting in April 2019. That review considered the response of the Yale Police Department and other neighboring departments.
